I Fixed My Imagination

· Orion

Ever since I was a little kid, I always had a very creative and imaginative mind. I’m sure that most people were very creative as kids. Though, sometime after our first year in the education system, I believe many people lose this wonderful ability. The stuff we are forced to learn, the rules we must obey, the homework that robs us of our free time at home. At least that was my case. I remember often spending hours over homework with my mum.

Anyway! I stopped using my imagination and mental visualizations to their full potential, which brings us to today’s post. Lately, I had trouble rendering objects in color in my head. My imagination turned black and white for some reason. I was able to see objects in color, but I was unable to hold it for too long. Let alone a whole scenery or a situation. So I started doing small daily mental exercises. First, I started by imagining a white canvas in front of me. Then I chose a random color and splashed it on the canvas. This worked really well. I could see any color for more than just a few seconds this way. Later I moved on to 2D and 3D shapes.

Rotating, slicing and changing their colors was fun and all, but I wanted more. So I began to play with full scenes, and that is where I got stuck for a while. I’m not sure how to properly articulate it, but when I tried doing more objects at once, I started to lose details. For example, I knew that the concrete had a rough texture and the fabric was soft. But when I turned my attention away from the concrete block, the texture disappeared, and I only knew that it was rough and uneven.

However, yesterday I had a remarkable breakthrough. It was at night when I was trying to fall asleep while listening to some ASMR video as usual. This time, though, I accidentally put on some guided meditation, but I was already too comfy to pick my phone up and change the video. So I said to myself that I might as well do the meditation and maybe later change the video.

The video was about visualizing your future, your dream life and all that jazz. Imagine this, imagine that, but the most important thing was when she said: “your visions are getting brighter and more vivid” or something like that. At that moment, I was imagining myself in the backyard of my residence, while holding a turtle. Everything seemed so real and bright as the heaven gate.

I cancelled my original plan and tried to visualize different locations and objects, and it was still the same. I remember creating a very detailed pair of leather gloves. Not only that, but I could rotate it, scale it, zoom on it and I still could see all the details and the texture at once. It felt like looking into a different reality than just imagining things in my head. Then I fell asleep and had a very strange dream I don’t remember much of.
