Farewell old friend
A farewell to Skype, the bridge that connected my childhood to laughter, friendship, and a world beyond my own.
Today I was working on an entirely different post, but this means more to me than any skateboard ever will.
Yesterday, Microsoft officially shut down Skype for good. The end of service was announced way ahead of time, but just today, just today, it really hit me. It hit me like a train in the face. Just for fun, I searched for the old Skype ringtone on YouTube, and all the memories started flooding in. People I thought I long forgot. Their voices filled my brain. The random but memorable and important figments of my childhood filled my heart.
All the cooperation and betrayals in Unturned servers. All the fun playing annihilation, bed wars, or just regular survival in Minecraft. The overwhelming joy of finishing the final wave in MvM. All the grinding to get a new tank in WoT, which I would later play terribly, but still enjoy nevertheless. The endless hours of chit-chat and laughter as we played.
As a kid, video games were my only escape from reality. I didn’t have any real friends, since I barely joined any clubs or pursued any hobbies. Well, video games were my hobby, I suppose. I did attend children's choir for a while later on, but I was pulled from there because I couldn't keep up with my homework and my grades started dropping or something. If I recall correctly, recently, my mom told me it was really because she and dad suspected the chorus master to be a pedophile. Skype was the bridge that made all this possible. I wouldn't have enjoyed gaming as much if it weren't for all the people I met and lost along the way.
Looking back, the nostalgia doesn't hurt as much as it used to. I'm feeling superb, actually, happy it happened, not sad that it's over.
Farewell, old friend. You were more important than you’ll ever know.
I would like to bring back my music section I used to have in my older blogs. So, here it is. I'm the kind of person to listen to just a few songs on repeat, but I will try and change it up for you guys, haha.
